The 411 on Crawl Space Fans

If you have a crawl space that holds moisture, we typically recommend a full vapor barrier and a dehumidifier. However, we also know that a dehumidifier can be expensive. An economical alternative to a dehumidifier is a crawl space fan. When combined with our crawl space moisture barrier and vent covers, the fan provides a cost-effective way to keep a crawl space dry.

At Master Services, we use the Crawl-O-Sphere crawl space fan. The only stipulation for its use is that the home must have central air conditioning because the fan connects to it.  Instillation of the fan is relatively simple. It is put in between the floor joists, and installing a vent to the floor above will be done within the specified time frame for the rest of the job. Once the fan is installed, it draws between 15 and 80 cubic feet of air per minute, depending on the size of your crawl space.

A wet, humid, or moisture filled crawl space can become a huge problem. It can cause mold that will circulate throughout your home. The moisture can also cause the wood underneath your home to rot. A dry crawl space is very important!
