Farewell Master Services! It's been a great summer working for you!
Well friends and family, Heather and I (Kallee) are in our final intern days here at Master Services. I now consider myself a Master Blogger because I write a blog for just about everything (events, work Master Services does, awards won, etc.) that goes on here at Master Services! So before we go, the intern girls would like to leave a brief memoir of our time here. We hope this inspire the future Master Services marketing interns!
Our journey began here the first week of June. I was also taking two summer classes at UT Knoxville. On our first official day Josh Smith took Heather (Marketing Intern), Kathryn Ann (Human Resources), Trevor (Marketing), and I to lunch to get acquainted and go over the intern position. Everyone was so easy going, yet I could tell they were definitely pros at their job! This definitely set the tone for the rest of the summer. Heather and I had never met before; however, we are both upcoming seniors at UTK majoring in Marketing. We first started working on a Radon brochure together and then branched off to somewhat separate projects for a while. I focused mainly on blogs and promotional coordination with our Marketing Coordinator. The biggest projects we took on this summer were the time lapse videos, where we went out to a job and setup the camera to take pictures continuously and magically turned the seven hour job into a two minute video, and the referral program video and handout, where Heather and I explain how to use Master Services' referral program. Through these projects and idea sharing, we became friends and made an awesome team!
Interning at Master Services was a great skill builder for me. I learned what it’s like to do marketing work for a small local business. Note: I knew nothing about waterproofing/foundation repair initially! My first few blogs were a little dry (like our basements!), but towards the end I gained confidence and really started to tap into my creative writing skills. I am so blessed to have worked with Master Services for my first real world marketing experience! It was so refreshing to work among the inviting, happy, funny staff and crew members. I never had a bad experience with any of the employees! I made friends and gained some genuine connections. And I’m not just saying all this to add fluff!
Heather would like to add:
Hi, Heather here! These past 8 weeks have truly been a journey. While Kallee did more work blogging and promoting, I was more behind the scenes. I did write a few blogs myself, however. This internship pushed me to learn new programs that I had never used before, professionally film a video (ask to see the bloopers), make a time lapse of a real job being done, and do research on research on research. Before working here, I had no idea about anything Master Services did. Now, I know all about basement waterproofing and radon testing and crawlspace encapsulation. I don't know if this knowledge specifically will be valuable for my future in marketing, but I do know that I have the capacity to do tons of research and create content about things I'm not familiar with.
Working at Master Services this summer has really been a blessing. The atmosphere is amazing and so relaxed (I've especially loved the monthly potlucks!). Josh and Jonathan are so nice and willing to work with you and provide positive insight on everything you do. Really, all of the crew here are super friendly and inviting. Having my partner-in-crime, Kallee, here with me has made this whole process much easier. It's nice to have someone with you when you're trying to figure out what the heck a sump pump is!
Thank You Master Services!
