Solving a Dual Threat to a Home's Foundation
Challenge
This home, built several decades ago with block foundation walls, had started showing concerning signs of structural stress. Large horizontal cracks were forming along the basement walls, and exterior signs of foundation settlement—like stair-step cracking and slight separation near windows—had begun to appear. The homeowner noted that these issues had developed gradually over the years, but recently worsened after a particularly wet season.
Solution
Our team assessed the situation and found that expansive clay soils around the foundation were contributing to both vertical settlement and inward wall movement. To provide a permanent solution, we installed helical piers beneath the home’s footer to transfer the load to stable, load-bearing strata deeper underground. At the same time, wall anchors were installed to halt and reverse the bowing walls, securing them to undisturbed soil beyond the pressure zone.
With both systems in place, the home’s foundation was stabilized against future movement, giving the homeowner long-term confidence and protecting the structural integrity of the home.
